One of the difficulties for many Credit Unions is finding new auto loans. Oftentimes it is hard to justify engaging in an advertising campaign, outbound marketing effort, or indirect loan program. The hassle, expense and risk just is not worth the effort.
Meanwhile members are being picked off by car dealers and competing financial institutions and the net result is a declining loan portfolio with no relief in sight. 70% of car buyers arrange their financing through the dealership at the time of purchase. They take the path of least resistance so they can drive home in their new car and often do so at rates that are much higher than their credit union can offer.
